  • Ask Me Anything Session with Guest Author, Jonathan Kravetz

    March 18, Monday 5:30pm ET

A virtual meet-up and resource sharing session to kick-off the Otherwordy Authors Circle. This is a safe, come-as-you-are space to share our ongoing projects, questions, and thoughts on writing life in general. We'll discuss and share resources on genre-specific writing, querying, and publishing (both traditional and self-publishing), as well as what to expect in the circle.

Recorded Sessions

Nov 20 AMA:
Authors Circle Kick-off

Authors finally meet each other virtually and have their questions answered by the group and guest editor, Sophie Cannata-Bowman who shares her insights on publishing, querying, and other resources.

Oct 30 AMA: Insights on Writing, Querying, and Publishing

In this recorded session, I share essential things I learned from working with traditional and independent publishers across genres, including poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. I discuss questions about the struggle with access in the publishing industry, ways to establish a writing routine, and insights on when to choose traditional vs. self-publishing.

Cowriting On-Demand

On-demand videos so can start a cowriting session anytime you need it. Check back for new on-demand sessions published weekly.

More Resources

  • Create Your Own MFA Resource List

Forget the online ads claiming to help you publish and market your books in 30 days or “hacking” ebook sales, etc. After years of watching, listening, and paying for countless courses and classes on writing and publishing, these are my top picks for resources and information that are accessible, free (or affordable), and are true to both the traditional publishing and self-publishing industry. I’ve also included short notes or reflections on writing style and maintaining authenticity in stories.

  • Talking Writing Podcast

An ongoing digital project, podcast, and online journal that celebrates writers, visual artists, musicians, and everyone who thinks of themselves as a creative lifer.

We keep creating against the odds, because we long for purpose and meaning in a chaotic world. In the Talking Writing podcast, we talk to artists of all mediums about their personal and creative lives – and the intersections between the two.

Writer Tools

Beautiful, customizable DIY websites

I’ve always felt comfortable fiddling with my own website and I wanted to be able to update it anytime I wanted. Edge Templates for Squarespace have made it much easier to build authority, find community, and promote my book with her all-in-one, gorgeous, DIY templates. If you’re a creative, these templates are a godsend. (Note: this is an affiliate link. I bought Edge templates in 2021 and customized this site by myself)

Accessible writing

AudioPen transforms messy voice notes into publish-ready text. Draft articles, memos, emails, and more. In a fraction of the time. (Note: NOT an affiliate link)

More than a thesaurus

OneLook is an underrated free online platform that serves as dictionary, thesaurus, brainstorming tool, and more. You can even search for related words and do a reverse dictionary search. The Spruce tab takes you to their “inspiration engine” which will find quotes, jokes, proverbs, or lyrics that fits the theme or description you type.
